Make-a-Day 1/26-28

I moved back into Linda and Terry's house on Thursday, and immediately set about to pulling out all my art stuff and setting up a space to work. I also started my "Make and Object a Day" challenge, and three days in, I've got three objects. So far, so good.

Yesterday I made this little green Swiss and Stamps book with Swiss maps and vintage stamps.
Friday, I made these crazy earrings at the end of a full day of work and a couple days of an annoying sinus allergy thing. I finally took some anti-histamines (pill packages seen here), and got a little loopy making these. This is also when I decided that I just have to make something everyday: it doesn't have to be good, it just has to be something.




This book was Thursday's effort; both it and the Swiss book are "X" books, made by folding and tearing a single sheet pf paper. I filled it with all sorts of vintage paper things I have in my collection. I love the look of these things, so why not use them? What am I saving them for?

I'm trying not to get caught up in what I'm going to do with all these things once I make them. I suppose I could always start sticking them in mail boxes around the neighborhood.

Back Track

In the course of one's creative progress, is it ever ok to back track? To re-visit, re-work? Resurrect if you will?

I'm rapidly approaching my thesis year, but for the past couple days, I've been thinking about these, which I did in my third semester at Towson. I've always really loved these because they're fun and experimental and I got to try a lot of weird stuff, and nobody can really tell what they are, exactly. I haven't shown them much, most of them fell apart, and I never got really good photos of them.

My themes, and ideas have changed since I made these (mainly, I have a clearer notion of what those themes and ideas are!), but I was wondering if I could revist these in the context of my thesis work. Could I view each one as a prayer or a daily devotional of some sort? I'm not sure if I could manage one daily. They seem to work up better in batches, but I think individually they could represent the idea of a daily practice. I'm thinking of a large installation. At least 40, maybe more.

Thoughts?

Prints and a Vessel

These prints aren't really anything special. Just playing around. All of the little plates that I printed came out of my scrap bin. The vessel has that snotty kind of texture because the chemistry in our electroformer is off. I plan on enameling it, so maybe it won't be so bad.
