And if you couldn't tell. . .

And if you couldn't tell from my last post, I'm back from the beach (sigh). Here's a pic of the Atlantic at sunrise.

New on Etsy

I just made these gift tags yesterday and I'm super excited about them! They're on sale in my esty store.

More Old School

Ok, I feel better about these. A few weeks ago, I got these slide binders off Etsy. Two pieces of thin glass slide into an aluminum frame. I originally wanted to use these with my rock work (thinking about rocks in thin section/ viewing rocks under a microscope). In fact, the slide at the very top has a gouache painting I did of a rock in thin section. But I think the slide binders paired with my "inspiration pack" contents work pretty well. I'm thinking of making these into brooches.
P.S. This will be my last post for a few days, as I am going to the BEACH!

Old School Process Shot

So here's what I have going on so far for the the "Old School" Show at Uppercase Gallery. I have to admit I'm freaking out a bit, because I'm in a bit of a creative slump and I don't have much confidence in this piece. But this is an amazing opportunity and I want to put my best foot forward. I just feel like my best isn't at it's best right now and my deadline is so soon!
I wouldn't be as freaked out if I wasn't going away for a few days. But, the opportunity came up to spend some time at the beach with some awesome people I don't get to see that often, so I'm taking it! Surely I can't be faulted that much?

Flopsy's Secret

I absolutly LOVE this print by Bad Bird. Found via Etsy's front page.

Happy Friday!

Well, it's Friday. I suppose you're expecting some work. Well, I've been working, but I've been being not so good about taking pictures. I've been printing like a FIEND. I did some really sweet chine colle, that I'm pretty excited about, and of course don't have a picture of. I think I fianlly have some prints for the "Printed Matter" show, curated by Allison Long. The show will be up for the month of July in the MFA Gallery, in the Center for the Arts, at Towson University.
I've also been learning how to set type and use the letterpresses here at Towson. I printed my name and info on the back of some note cards with the Kelsy press.
Speaking of note cards, here's my current favorite set, posted on etsy.
Happy Friday everyone!

Odd Bug

Check out this wierd bug I saw yesterday. I've only seen this kind of insect once before. I'm waiting to hear from my insect taxonomist, whom I have on call, to tell me what it is. I know more about insect than an average person should probably know (I've also forgotton more about insect than the average person probably knows), but this particular insect (moth?) wasn't on my taxa list.

Plant

So I finally bought a plant for my apartment. There's a greehouse down the street, and plants were 20% off, carry out, so I figured why not? They have a pretty extensive greenhouse and lots of beautiful plants. They also had two dogs hanging out in the green house, and any day I get to pet a dog is a good day.

Quote of the Week

Sorry, it's been awhile since since I've done a quote:

"Don't sweat the petty things, and don't pet the sweaty things."

Etsy Shop Open!

Well, I finally did it! I fianlly posted some items on etsy. Ok, so only 5, but it's a start. And I don't have a splashy banner yet, and my announcement isn't earth shattering, but hey, things will only improve from here.
So go check it out!

Sketchbook Pages

Some recent sketch book pages. Gouache on denril, various pens/markers on vellum and on bistol. They're loose sheets for now, but I intend on binding them into a book when I have enough.

I'm in Metalsmith!!!

Ok, so it's just the "Join SNAG" insert, so it doesn't really count. But it's still cool! This is a pic from the pin swap at the conference. That's me in the striped shirt. Jessica is next to me in the black shrug and white shirt.
And if you check out the SNAG website, or the page about the conference in Metalsmith, you can see Annie, participating in that very heated dialogue!

Still around. . .

Hey folks, just wanted to let you all know that I'm still around, despite my lack of posting. Also, it's like a billion degrees here. And it's only the begining of June! If this keeps up, I think July might actually kill me!
And if you haven't already, check out the new competitors over at Zuda. There's a lot of strong work, and I'm not sure who I'm voting for yet. . .

Flag Book

Several weeks ago, I took a really great book making workshop, and I finally finished my book yesterday! (Better late than never, right?) This type is called a flag book. The pages are attatched to an acordian spine in such a way, that when the book is opened some pages flip one way and the other pages flip the opposite way. But, you can also flip through it like a regular book.
