A Halloween Tale of Horror. . .

A few years ago, when I was an undergraduate, my art history professor made a little Halloween slide show of historic art for us. First he started off with a little Goya, like this:
And this.
Then we moved up through history and got to some Francis Bacon, like this:

And then (and here's the really scary part) he ended with this!:

Ok, maybe not this exact house, but let's face it, they're all pretty much the same.
Have a Happy Halloween!

Tasty Treat

Toast with peanut butter and chocolate jimmies. Gotta keep up with the Dutch.

Score!

So Jan and Heidi brought us grads gifts from their trip to Holland for Dutch Design Week! I got these sweet colored pencils that are made from Chinese newspapers!

And then later this morning I got a busted type case.

Process Shot of the Week

So I spent practically the whole week working on a bunch of intaglio plates. A couple, like this one are meant to be a group of four prints with chine colle in four different, but coordinating colors. I'm having a bit of trouble with this color grouping, which I don't even want to get into. The other plates, I'll print and then enamel (champleve).

Here's me looking a little inky. This was about the cleanest I've been in the print studio since Thursday night. I've been using a graphite colored etching ink, which I'm pretty in love with.

Quote of the Week

"Participation in art is not simply one of many possible ways to make a living, an obsolete trade as we approach the year 2000. Participation in an art, at bottom has nothing to do with earning money. Participation in an art, although unrewarded by wealth and fame, and as the Middle West has encouraged so many of it's young people to discover for themselves so far, is a way to make one's soul grow."

Bad Blogger

I've been a bad blogger this week, I know. I swear I'll get caught up with it this weekend. I've actually been fairly productive this week. And I've got permanetly blue cuticles to prove it.

Process Shot of the Week

Flickr site has been updated with pics of my finished installation.

Rock Rings

Check out these awesome rings by Marta Sanchez. These are from her etsy shop, but she also runs the great blog 18k. If you've never checked it out, you should. I love the simplicity in these. I love that the minerals are well integrated into the ring shank, yet remain the main focus of the piece. The pyrite one is my favorite.

Quote of the Week

"'You go through it, you sort it out, you throw some of it away. Then you stack up the rest, nice and neat. Next time it won't be such a big deal.'
'I don't have the energy," he says.
'Kiddo, you got any idea how much energy it takes to hold the door closed like you do? That's power. Your own personal power and nobody else's."
'Sometimes, ' he says, 'When you let yourself feel, all you feel is lousy.'
Berger nods, 'Maybe, you gotta feel lousy sometimes in order to feel better. A little advice, kiddo, about feeling. Don't think too much about it. And don't expect it always to tickle.'"

Process Shot of the Week

So this week and next, I have the installation space to mess around in. I was going to take before shot, but I forgot my camera. So just imagine an empty space with white walls. As always, you can see more up on my flickr site.

Up on the Issues

Tarquin knows where it's at, design wise.

Urg. . . .

So I did it. I finally joined Facebook. I feel like I've lost a piece of my soul . . . .

Fashionably Fall

I've made a few updates to my etsy shop over the past few days. I've got a few note card sets for fall, including this one, and I added several new wedding sets just yesterday.

Also, if you're in the Clarion area (ha ha, bad pun!) this Friday, I'll have note cards and possibly some jewelry for sale at Autumn Leaf Festival's Farmer and Crafter Day. I won't be there, unfortunately, but my brother and some very talented people from the Clarion News will be running a booth in front of CVS. So stop by and check out all their awesome stuff!
