The Art of Enamel

Thursday evening I rode out to Manteo with Ken Bova and Mi Sook Hur to attend the Art of Enamel opening reception. I always love the drive out to the Outer Banks, and it was great to catch up with Ken and Mi Sook. The College of the Albemarle has a fantastic little gallery, and the work was just spectacular. I still can't believe I was in a show with so many of my enameling idols!

Awesome Jewelry that I Own!

I'm really very fortunate that I know so many talented and giving people who are willing to gift or trade me their fantastic work. Here are a few recent adds to my personal collection I've aquired over the past few months. (This is just a start, I've got some more awesome pieces to add to this later, including my "Wonder Triplet Power Ring".)

Some shots of what I got accomplished today. Top, finished collaboration with Jennifer Wells for the CoOperative Tableware show, and bottom, slate and enamel brooch. This brooch is for a benefit auction, where proceeds will go to a scholarship to the ECU Metal Design program in Bob Ebendorf's name. I must say, I'm quite honored to be participating in this event.

Forked

So, I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of this fork and spoon, fabricated by the ever talented Jennifer Wells, in the mail. I have to make handles for these sexy things by Nov. 5th. I'm not panicking. . . .yet. I'll probably electroform something, 'cause that's what I do, and enamel them dark rock gray. Could be a couple of sleepless nights headed my way. But I can't sleep half the time anyway, so I might as well be productive, right?

Busy Busy!

Well, we never quit here at ECU! This week several of us grads installed work in the Burrough's Welcome Gallery. Unfortunately, we couldn't book the gallery for the Symposium, but since we had it this week we decided to use it! It's a really informal grouping of works by Jeniffer Wells, Abigail Heuss (top photo), Kat Cole (middle photo), Marissa Saneholtz, Laura Wood and myself. Brushes from Bob's workshop are also on display.
My piece is titled "50 Days of String". It's bits of found string stitched onto Denril. It's a bit different from my usual work, but there is something that I really enjoy about it. You can see more pics of my piece "50 Days of String" here.
